HELLO, NICE TO MEET YOU!

I was raised by a mother who loved to create. She made pottery in the kiln in our backyard and dabbled in everything from painting to candle making. My earliest sense memories are tied to her hands, her materials, and the things she made for our home. She was my first mentor in the arts — and my motivation when I learned to pour candles as we prepared to launch Backhouse.

After two decades in real estate appraisal, I had walked through hundreds of homes. It's an intimate experience — the photos on the wall, the styles that come and go, the small intentional choices that make a space feel like theirs. I started to notice what separated a house from a home. It wasn't square footage or finishes. It was presence. The objects that lived alongside the people. The details that quietly held meaning.

That's what Backhouse Fragrances was built on.

In 2018, my husband Taylor and I established the brand from a backhouse behind our home in Newport Beach. The name came from the space itself — a four-car garage turned design studio. Concrete floors, brick walls, and a cold draft in the winter. We hand-poured the first candles there, and we built the brand from that small space.

Years later, the candles are still hand-poured. The aesthetic is still intentional. And Backhouse has grown into something bigger than candles — a gifting brand designed for the moment of giving, with a collection that lives well beyond a single occasion.

Our signature scents are inspired by places we’ve visited and life’s most important occasions.  Each one named, each one intentional.

Beyond servicing our loyal individual customers, we've had the privilege of building corporate gifting programs for leading firms across financial services, commercial real estate, hospitality, entertainment, healthcare, and consumer brands — including J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, JLL, AEG, Pelican Hill Resort, Taco Bell, Deloitte, Nissan, Starbucks, Califia Farms, Hoag Hospital, CHOC Children's Hospital, and Skout's Honor.
